The annual death rate by small arms fire for Coalition soldiers in Iraq is 60 per 100,000. The death rate by small arms fire in Washington D.C. is 82 per 100,000. Iraq has no gun control laws. D.C. has some of the most stringent in the USA. Conclusion? You are less likely to die by bullet in Iraq in combat than you are in D.C. visiting the Washington Monument. Odd that.

Odd that the DC rate is ~31 murders per 100,000. And that's total murders/100K. Small arms would be less. Visiting the Washington Monument is safer than Iraq.

As the Virgina Tech massacre showed, Virginia does not have gun control laws.

The odds that you'll die by "bullet" in a combat situation inside Iraq is much, much higher than it would be if you were simply visiting the Washington Monument in a non-combat situation. So there is no logical way that you could compare these two starkly different situations where the variables are so complicated and widespread.

But you know what, MIDAMER, I'll go out on a limb here to say that the odds that one of our servicemen in Iraq would be shot by a .38 Special are probably lower than it would be if they were in some slum in Washington, D.C. The same goes with a Daisy BB gun that uses those little cO2 bottles.

You can get in trouble in Iraq for throwing shoes, but there isn't a single gun control law (e.g., guns allowed in mosques? target practice?) in Iraq? Striking.

Since I can't find it, perhaps you have a link (in English, that is) to current Iraqi statutes? The current Constitution does outlaw unauthorized militias, which in itself is a gun control law actually. There also does not appear to be a Second Amendment type provision. Cf. the right to play sports.

Joe, you're comparing apples to oranges. The question is not how many US soldiers are shot down in combat, the question is how many Iraqi citizens have been and are killed. Estimates range from half a million to a million and a half..... In addition, the US soldiers shot down in combat wouldn't have been shot down if they stayed home, so add their numbrs to your stats...

The terrorists in Iraq wear Civilian Clothing. Granted some civilians are killed by US forces in Iraq due to the fog of war but those hundreds of thousands (I sincerely doubt the numbers you claim) KIA in Iraq are legitimate terrorists deserving of the death they received whilst combating our troops.
