The really good news....
by Marcus61

...is that the progressive campaign to deligitimize conservatives and conservative thought has failed miserably.

This was inevitable, as in -- "Earth to progressives: ordinary folks have a brain in their head, are quite capable of making their own decisions, and quite capable of managing the consequences on their own."

Even though inevitable, what's remarkable is that it has happened so fast. Despite - or rather maybe because of - the past year and more of millenial progressive group-think permeating the public sphere, the people ain't buyin' it. Score (another) one for the political equilibrium of ordinary folks.

P.S. Regarding NY23, wasn't Sarah Palin supposed to be (choose one): (a) a lightweight; (b) a joke; (c) a spent political force; (d) all of the above? Just asking.

I believe the answer is D. But you can make the point that she may not be a spent political force because actually, many people DON'T have a brain in their heads, and after 50 years of programming, any idiot with a mouth just has to say "I'm a mother, love my children....socialists!.....(black people)....They hate america, I love it......" and a couple million hens start clucking "That's what we need, a real politican"

Considering the only race that she got really involved in and got her way is the one piece of bad news for Republicans from last night I would say (d) has been validated.

The fact that the answer is now definitively "d" is very good news for the GOP. She has got to go.

Do you realize that Sarah's intervention gave a stalwart republican seat to a dmocrat?

EPIC TEABAGGER FAIL.
by IdioticStemCell

It's been, what, since 1871 that a Democrat has held that seat?

Yeah, I'd say that Sarah Failin' is (a), (b), (c), and (d) all rolled into one package.

Ha!

People, people, people.....concentrate with me for a moment.

Dede's NY23 campaign was founded on the assumption that the conservative movement is dead, and that Republicans can only succeed by being more slightly more staid and reputable versions of Democrats.

Hoffman, with a huge boost from Palin, and even though he lost the race demolished that one.

If she and her conservative views are - indeed - "d" then how to account for her influence on the course of the campaign?

On second thought - maybe you should just all keep up the good work with the attacks on Palin....it's having the opposite effect from your intentions :)

Marcus- concentrate with me here for a bit. Palin sticks her nose in and champions a candidate. Voters reject candidate championed by Palin and elect democrat. Mission accomplished.

Or we can put it this way: In a solidly-republican district that has not gone democratic since the 19th century, a candidate running on the tea-bagging platform managed to lose. I don't see how you can say that this is a victory for hard-core conservative principles. They should have listened to Newt Gingrich: <link> The hard-core conservative base is shrinking demographically, so widening the tent a bit would seem to be a good idea to me.

Regarding NY23, it proved that Sarah Palin was all the things you called her. And yet you seem to think she is the future of the GOP. Good luck with that.

Sarah didn't influence nearly as much as the RNC's decision to abandon the candidate their own state party chose and not help her finanacially. The RNC is afraid of Sarah.

In case you missed the point. The candidate she backed lost...big time.

exactly. this needs to be said a million times, so it gets into people like yours' head. 23 had been republican only for nearly 200 consecutive years. The REPUBLICAN candidate gets dropped for a tea party conservative wing nut (WHY? Because she supported the individual liberty republicans so claim to be fans of, when secretly they just mean guns and hating gays, and loving only xian god.) and as a result 23 becomes democratic for the first time in 200 years. over 7,000 people voted for the Republican candidate who had DROPPED OUT. "well shit, I've always voted republican, but now my choice are a wingnut, or a democrat. Fuck it. I'm still voting republican. I'd rather vote for/write in for a candidate who dropped out then the other two". That's a real resounding victory for the wingnuts. GO BACK TO ALASKA. Crawl in a hole, and die Sarah Palin.

All this anti-conservative vituperation, a year and more's worth of Obamessiah worship (enabled by a media that has vacuum-packed itself into the tank for him)....and still....it's a 50:50 nation.

Now isn't that enough to just ruin your progressive weekend!

yeah, if by fifty, fifty, you mean 52 45, or a difference of 10 million.

<link>

And the exact same crap could be switched around and said to be spewed by you and the wingnuts at fox who spit vitriolic at Obama, Liberals, fuck even moderates, and worship Palin as the White Trash Idiot Diva, yet a new york district still goes democratic instead of voting for palins candidate not even from the area.
